Degaussing does NOT always permanently destroy the information written to data storage systems or server hard drives. The process of degaussing server and data storage hard drives with a high-powered electromagnetic field is meant to polarize the binary sequence to either all zeros or all ones. This is meant to totally remove all data. However, electromagnetic fields are not 100% effective at achieving this, especially on solid state drives, data center storage arrays & server drives. The single best way to destroy server data storage systems is to have their physical hard drives removed and wiped with a Gutmann standard 35-pass overwrite. This means the data on each drive is overwritten 35 times, making the original data unretrievable. Alternatively, having your server hard drives shredded using a NAID standard hard drive shredder will utterly destroy ‘any and all data’ stored.

Decommissioned servers may well still hold a resell value greater than the removal and disposal cost. The ITAD ECO Plus solution might be able to cover the removal and data destruction fees by refurbishing and then selling the decommissioned servers. Similarly, if retired corporate server towers or data center cloud servers hold an exceptionally good resell value, then it’s possible the ITAD ECO Plus team might actually buy them directly and collect these used servers for free. Decommissioned rack servers, blade servers and tower servers that are obsolete, damaged or broken will need to be removed from your location and professionally recycled. The cost of disposal for these failing or obsolete servers is usually calculated from the logistical and processing expenses (e.g. distance, parking fees, quantity, accessibility, materials separation and reclamation).
You can find out what your old servers and network hardware is worth and if there are any freight and processing costs by contacting the ITAD ECO Plus processing facility: call 877-592-6009 or email Support@ITAD-Company.com.
If you search for “a recycling company near me to remove and recycle used servers” there is a likelihood you will see thousands of search results. Choosing a company to dispose of your servers might at first look easy but there is a lot more to consider than just customer reviews and locations. In reality, most IT directors and data center administrators responsible for the recycling of commercially used servers demand 3 fundamental requirements. 1. “Accountability” – i.e., can the ITAD company providing the “server disposal service” provide a legally valid chain of custody? 2. If the ITAD company is recycling the servers are they ISO 40001 and R2v3 certified? Failure to recycle IT hardware properly could well result in fines and even imprisonment. 3. Sound digital data destruction. ITAD companies managing the recycling of data center, cloud or business servers should provide digital data destruction that’s either NAID or HIPPA compliant.

There are so many places that will buy used servers. When it comes to selling decommissioned rack-mountable servers, tower servers and blade servers there are usually three main determining factors that dictate what an ITAD company will be willing to buy them for. 1. The make and model is everything, an ITAD business will aim to buy modernish, second hand HPE servers, Dell servers, Inspur servers, Lenovo servers, IBM servers, PowerEdge servers, Blade servers and EMC servers. 2. A server’s core (processor) is also very important, quad-core servers, hexa-core servers, octa-core servers,10-core servers and 12-core servers still hold a good value. However, it is not likely an ITAD company will pay for retired single processor servers and decommissioned dual-core servers. 3. The server role can also determine its second-hand value. File servers, application servers, web servers database servers, virtual servers and proxy servers all hold different remarketing values.
If you are looking for a business to buy used servers, contact the ITAD ECO Plus solution for a legal, eco-friendly and ethical server removal, recycling and reselling service. Head Office: 877-592-6009 (EST) or email Support@ITAD-Company.com.
IT hardware is classified as toxic electronic waste in the USA. This classification was awarded due to the deadly elements, materials and chemicals used in the components that make up a modern-day computer. Servers are no exception, and can contain contaminates such as Chromium, Beryllium, Cadmium, Mercury and Lead. Servers need to be recycled not just from an ethical perspective but from a legal one too. Selling your decommissioned servers and then simply entrusting that they will be recycled correctly at some point simply isn’t enough. A lot of discarded servers end up in 3rd world toxic scrap piles. You have the power to prevent this and ensure your decommissioned servers and IT hardware are all disposed of correctly.
The ITAD ECO Plus server disposal solution has been purposefully design to support the business community, governmental organisations and the military in the legal disposal of their decommissioned servers and computer network hardware. Businesses that decommission, remove, recycle, remarket (resell or buy) used servers are usually called ITAD companies. ITAD stands for information technology asset disposition which is a term used to encompass reusing, recycling, repurposing, repairing or disposing of retired computer technology in a secure, ethical and environmentally responsible way. An ITAD company will tend to manage the disposal of all server IT hardware devices from rack mounted servers to server SATA HDD cases and even the server racks themselves. Using a certified ITAD company helps ensure you’ve legally disposed of your servers and IT equipment. With legality and ethics in mind any business providing server recycling, server reselling and server disposal must at least be accredited with R2V3, ISO 14001 environmental certification and practice “Best in Class” digital data destruction methods. All trusted server removal and IT recyclers should provide you with a report of disposal that proves the transfer of ownership and server hard drive digital data destruction.
The ITAD ECO Plus server decommissioning service goes that one step further by also providing a solution that helps reduce your companies carbon footprint. For more information call our head office: 877-592-6009 or email Support@ITAD-Company.com
If you are an IT director, IT manager, CIO, data center or cloud administrator and you are responsible for decommissioning server technology and networking hardware, then it’s highly advisable you ensure proof of disposal is provided. Proof of server disposal might be a simple itemised invoice or a highly detailed report listing the server and IT hardware quantities, their brands and even the serial numbers of each server and hard drive. ITAD companies usually charge to produce detailed disposal, recycling, data destruction and resell reports. Obviously, the more detail an IT manager or data center administrator wants regarding server disposal, the longer it takes and the higher the admin costs. It’s important you specify what type of server disposal report you want before the servers are removed. That way the ITAD company can ensure all the server equipment is bar coded and tagged appropriately so each individual asset can be tracked throughout the disposal process.
The ITAD ECO Plus server disposal solution provides legal proof that your servers have been disposed of in accordance with both State & Federal laws: 877-592-6009 or email Support@ITAD-Company.com.
It is sometimes easier to price the removal, disposal or recycling costs of servers via their brand and model. For example, retired HPE servers and Dell servers are usually disposed of in larger quantities and require more manpower and transportation in the ITAD process. However, used servers with 8 or more cores and 16GB to 32GB of RAM, can often have a good second-hand value that if sold in sufficient quantities can result in paying for removal, processing and data destruction. If a data center or cloud facility is decommissioning large quantities of servers and network hardware then some ITAD companies will offer to purchase the servers and provide free removal, free data destruction (hard drive wiping or shredding) and free recycling.
