ITAD companies provide many services, most of which have a corresponding accreditation body to set an operational standard. ITAD accreditation bodies are a mixture of either civilian or governmentally recognised organizations. For example, ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization, whilst on the other hand the EPA is an independent executive agency of the United States federal government. Both the EPA and ISO hold an important role in the ITAD process, especially in regard to disposing of IT hardware. List below are various ITAD relevant accreditation bodies and regulators. The US governments Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is tasked with environmental protection matters. In terms of on computer e-waste management, the EPA works bilaterally with governments and environmental officials from around the world. The EPA's mission is to protect human health and the environment. Computer hardware contains many toxins that are harmful to both humans and the environment. Therefore, the EPA has classified computer electronic waste as ‘hazardous toxic ewaste’. This classification means that all decommissioned computers and IT hardware are subject to the regulations and laws specified in the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in addition to many other legislations covering electronics disposal. ITAD companies and computer recyclers can apply for EPA membership.
If you are in charge of a data center, department or business and are planning to retire or decommission IT hardware such as desktop computers, laptops, servers, mobile devices and other such computing equipment please email: Support@ITAD-Company.com with your details or CLICK HERE to use our automated online ITAD price calculator.
The e-Stewards program grew out of the concern that computer ewaste generated in the USA, Europe, Australia and Great Britain was being dumped and dismantled in poor countries, often by underage workers. To combat this problem the e-Stewards Initiative created a certification program responsible for the correct management of computer ewaste recycling. It’s fair to say that the e-Stewards certificate was developed by both the environmental community and industry members. The certificate is known more commonly as the ‘e-Stewards Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronic Equipment’. To achieve this standard an ITAD company or computer recycler must also gain ISO 14001 and R2 (Responsible Recycling) accreditation.
Is your organization planning to decommission IT hardware such as desktop computers, laptops, servers, mobile devices and other such computing equipment? The ITAD ECO Plus Initiative can help, please email: Support@ITAD-Company.com or call our headquarters on: 877-592-6009 (EST).
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law that sets out national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed. In fact, HIPAA compliant digital data destruction requires that all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is permanently removed from any form of digital storage device (HDD & SSD) before recycling or reselling used computers. Our ITAD data destruction services (on-site & off-site) comply fully with HIPAA. We can also remove sensitive data at your location or our processing facility. Furthermore, our ITAD ECO Plus solution provides data wiping measures that adhere to the US Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a global federation that sets worldwide standards for businesses, enterprises and organizations. The ISO is not a governmental body but is currently recognised in over 160 different countries. The ISO headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland though the ISO was originally founded in London (UK) in 1947. Most ITAD businesses and computer recycling companies will hold at least one ISO standard. Our ITAD company holds the ISO 14001 environmental certification. ISO 14001 is a management system that focuses on maintaining and improving the environment.
The ITAD ECO Plus solution is dedicated to making the process of IT hardware decommissioning and disposal environmentally friendly. Our mission is to help the IT industry in becoming sustainable, clean and ethically responsible. If your agency, business or data center is retiring IT assets we would be grateful for the opportunity to help. Please email: Support@ITAD-Company.com or call our headquarters on: 877-592-6009 (EST).
The Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher program (MAR) is a licensing program tailored to the needs of large refurbishers who meet a minimum average monthly resell threshold of 1,000 used computer systems. MAR is primarily geared towards reconditioning computers and servers with genuine Microsoft software. The MAR program offers computer recyclers and ITAD companies specially priced Microsoft licenses for refurbished computers that have used a Windows operating system previously. This means that a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or a Genuine Microsoft label can be affixed to the equipment. The MAR program ensures that decommissioned servers, desktops and laptops that have had their hard drives wiped or shredded can have new hard drives and an OS installed. Thusly, making an otherwise redundant computer usable again.
If you are interested in reselling your decommissioned computers, laptops and servers please email: Support@ITAD-Company.com or call our headquarters on: 877-592-6009 (EST).
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory US governmental agency that branches out from the Department of Commerce. NIST has its own physical science laboratories, though its main mission is to encourage American innovation and industrial competitiveness. It was founded by the United States Congress well over a hundred years ago (1901), you might be wondering what it has to do with IT asset disposition and computer recycling. NIST plays a massive role in data security, in fact NIST 800-88 is widely known for its digital data sanitization categories (e.g.: Clear, Purge and Destroy). NIST standards in digital data destruction are applied to magnetic, flash-based, and other storage technologies, from USB drives (SSD) to servers (HDD, SSD and hybrid data storage hardware). The ITAD ECO Plus digital data destruction service is NIST 800-88 compatible.

The International Secure Information Governance & Management Association (i-SIGMA®) is the industry trade association responsible for enforcing NAID AAA Certification and PRISM Privacy+ standards. NAID is currently recognised on six continents by both governments and industry as one of the leading standards for digital data destruction. The NAID AAA Certification® is issued by i-SIGMA, which is classified as a 501(c)6 non-profit organization, and formed by the merger of NAID and PRISM International in 2018. NAID standards in digital data destruction are usually found on equipment ratings. Hard drive shredders and hard drive destruction hardware is usually NAID certified.

R2v3 accreditation is a certificated standard in the sustainable management of used electronic equipment, for example computers and IT hardware. The organization responsible for the creation of R2 certification is SERI. Much like i-SIGMA (NAID) SERI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit but also an ANSI accredited standards development organization. The R2 Standard is a global certification and is part of SERI’s mission to create a world where electronic products are reused and recycled in a way that results in resource preservation, the well-being of the environment, and the health and safety of workers and communities. R2v3 certification is a voluntary sustainability standard that certifies responsible ITAD businesses and computer recycling companies.
R2v3 certification strengthens data security controls and enhances controls for test, repair, and reuse operations to ensure the quality and effectiveness of IT asset disposition services. Our ITAD company is fully R2v3 certified. For help with IT asset disposition please email: Support@ITAD-Company.com or call our headquarters on: 877-592-6009 (EST).

The top five largest Universities in the USA are Texas A&M University, University of Central Florida, Ohio State University, University of Florida and Florida International University. Between them they have over 300,000 enrolments. That’s a colossal number of students and a colossal requirement for administrational services. It is estimated that the number of workstations and servers alone used to manage the administration of schools, colleges and universities in the US exceeds 1,000,000. That’s an incredible amount of toxic e-waste waiting to be dumped when it comes time to dispose of those CPUs. That’s why we have developed the ITAD ECO Plus solution to help schools, colleges and universities recycle their administrational IT hardware and office computers. To learn more about the removal and recycling of old computers and servers or for support please call or email us today.
