Our ITAD company is looking for an experienced Data Center Facilities Operations Engineer to join a highly technical group responsible for decommissioning, removing, recycling or selling used server, networking and storage data center infrastructure. In this role, you will be partly responsible for the on-site decommissioning of data centers and colocation (CoLo) facilities across the USA. Knowledge of the interdependencies between data center functions and technologies is a massive advantage.

We require individuals, with a proven ability to deliver irrespective of the task, you must have strong technical experience, and can make well-planned engineering decisions in regards to decommission and removing data center computing, network and storage hardware. Our clients are looking for a data center decommissioning services from us, that might be part of a data center upgrade plan, or part of a data center migration project plan. Therefore, we require Data Center Facilities Operations Engineer that can work without causing any operational risk to the data centers day-to-day performance. The candidate for this role will work well alone and in teams, manage time extremely well, and place integrity above all else. This role will require physical labor, including lifting things up to 40lbs. You will be responsible for removing rack hardware, ensuring it is packed and not damaged.

Your specific work will cover all aspects of complex distributed data center environments and hardware. After your team has decommissioned and removed data center equipment, you will be responsible for testing used servers, switches and storage arrays. You will mainly be working with HPE ProLiant Servers, Dell EMC PowerEdge Rack Servers, and SuperMicro servers. We will also require you to inspect and test data center network switches such as Cisco, TP-Link, Quanta Computer, HP, D-Link, NETGEAR, Signamax, etc. You may also be called upon to provide a purchase valuation for excess or used data center servers, decommissioned switches and second-hand storage systems. Our ITAD company will purchase most used HPE, DELL, SuperMicro & IBM servers as well as network hardware.

The successful candidate must have 3+ years’ experience with the design, commissioning, construction, maintenance, and operations of mission-critical data centers, customer service center (call center), or similar 24/7 facilities. In-depth knowledge of MEP components such as Switchgear, UPS, Generator, STS, PDU, RPP, Chillers, CRAH units, Cooling Towers, AHUs, VESDA, pre-action, or BMS is a big plus.

Experience with design redundancy would be preferable along with familiarity with BMS controls, including submittal and SOO review, and a general understanding of associated protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP).

A high-level understanding of the IT requirements within a data center, including liaising with IT groups to gather and assess their build requirements would be preferable. If you have be responsible for planning preventative and reactive maintenance, including review and supervision of SOPs, EOPs, and MOPs we are extremely interested in hearing from you.

Addition requirements include:

• Management of data center providers and the ability to meet problems with creative solutions
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends in support of 24x7x365 operations
• Strong communicator with an ability to describe detailed problems with brevity and accuracy
• Willing to travel and participate in an on-call rotation to respond to critical system emergencies
• Experience working in a Linux environment a plus
• Fluency in English required

Summary of Preferable Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 3 years' experience in a related field. However, the right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and up to 2 years' experience; or 6 years' experience in a related field.

Experience with IP network (i.e.: Engineering, Technical Operations) design and management including recent experience with Cisco/Arista/Fortinet/Juniper implementations; as well as experience designing and implementing complex IP routing scenarios (Including: Spanning Tree, MPLS, OSPF, ISIS, RSVP, & BGP).

Experience in working within complex project execution teams, ability to clearly communicate requirements, delegate work activities, and provide clarity of goals and priorities in a manner that assures timely execution of projects.

Clear understanding of modern firewall, router, and switch architecture and network design (control plane and forwarding plane separation, switch fabric design, egress queuing, IP lookup algorithms, traffic engineering, protection mechanisms, and capacity planning).

Understanding of RFC1918 and Carrier Grade NAT (CGN).

Experience with MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, as well as MS Visio and other graphical development tools.

CCIE, CCNP, JNCIE, JNCIP, CISSP, CEH, ITIL are an advantage.

Direct experience with Ethernet performance measurement tools and an understanding of network domain segmentation and bridging services to management domains.

Experience with Unix/Linux/Windows

Knowledge of SDN principles and technologies such as OpenFlow, Service Chaining, NFV, OpenStack, Controllers, Contrail, Orchestration, SD-WAN, etc. is an advantage.
